UBORA Award

What is the UBORA award?

BIO and the King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) are re-launching an award focused on SMEs in the DRC.

The Ubora Award – which means “excellence” in Swahili – aims to promote the performance of SMEs, as well as their recognition and application of environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards in the DRC.

In the spirit and especially in the implementation of the award, we have decided to rely on what the PADMPME program has succeeded in putting in place in terms of dynamics and rigorous identification of remarkable companies/entrepreneurs. Concretely, we want to entrust the local management of the award to I&F Entrepreneurship, which is part of two of the PADMPME implementation consortia and is a long-standing partner of the King Baudouin Foundation.

The Ubora Award will therefore be closely associated with the remarkable work initiated and financed by the World Bank in favor of Congolese SMEs, with the opportunity for it to be even more widely known and appreciated outside the borders of the DRC as well.

Why do we support them?

By supporting the Ubora Award, we want to contribute to the development and growth of the SME sector in the DRC by promoting sustainable and responsible business practices. By recognizing and rewarding SMEs that prioritize ESG standards, we hope to encourage other companies to follow suit, leading to a more sustainable and responsible business ecosystem in DRC.

Our support for the Ubora Prize is closely linked to our mission to empower DRC youth and promote sustainable development in the region. We believe that supporting the SME sector in the DRC is essential to creating long-term economic growth and improving the lives of people in the region.

What is the main objective of this project?

By supporting the Ubora Award, we aim to achieve several goals. These objectives are as follows:

  1. Promote sustainable and responsible business practices: We aim to encourage SMEs in the DRC to prioritize and integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards into their business practices. By recognizing and rewarding SMEs that commit to ESG standards, we hope to promote sustainable and responsible business practices in the region.
  2. Supporting the growth and development of the SME sector: We believe that supporting the SME sector in the DRC is essential to creating long-term economic growth and improving the lives of people in the region. By recognizing and rewarding successful SMEs that prioritize ESG standards, we hope to contribute to the growth and development of the SME sector in DRC.
  3. Encourage other companies to follow suit: By promoting the Ubora Award and highlighting the importance of ESG standards, we hope to encourage more companies in DRC to prioritize sustainability and responsible business practices. We believe this will lead to a more sustainable and responsible business ecosystem in the region.
