Ndako ya Biso Centre

What is Ndako ya Biso?

The first Ndako Ya Biso centre is for street boys. It is an open care facility, not creating too much dependency for the children and allowing them to retain control and autonomy over their lives. Subsequently, a second hostel was opened for the reception and night shelter of street girls, with a third more specifically for the reception and listening of older street youth.

The centre also has a dispensary exclusively for the care of street children. A vocational training centre, the St Joseph Centre, was added to these facilities in 2012.

Why do we support them?

The foundation supports the Ndako Ya Biso centre because it believes in the importance of providing a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable children living on the streets. The Ndako Ya Biso centre provides a range of services, including open reception, overnight accommodation and vocational training, to help street children take control of their lives and become self-sufficient.

Our support for Ndako Ya Biso is also part of our wider commitment to social inclusion and equal opportunities. We believe that every child, regardless of their background or situation, should have access to basic needs such as housing, health care and education. By supporting the Ndako Ya Biso centre, we hope to contribute to the well-being and empowerment of street children in the DRC.

In particular, our support for the centre’s vocational training centre, the St Joseph Centre, aims to help street children acquire the skills and knowledge they need to build a better future for themselves. By providing vocational training opportunities, the centre helps break the cycle of poverty and vulnerability that often keeps street children trapped in their situation.

Overall, our aim in supporting Ndako Ya Biso is to provide street children with a safe and supportive environment where they can receive the care, support and training they need to thrive. We believe that by supporting vulnerable children in this way, we can help promote social inclusion, equal opportunities and sustainable development in the DRC.

What is the main objective of this project?

The foundation’s objective in supporting the Ndako Ya Biso centre to fund a new building is to help the centre provide better and safer facilities for street children in Kinshasa. The current situation, where the centre for older street children is located on the same land as the centre for street girls, poses safety concerns for the girls and limits the space available for the various services offered by the centre.

By funding the construction of a new building, we hope to provide the centre with the necessary infrastructure to expand its services and accommodate more street children in need. This will enable the centre to offer better care, counselling, literacy and vocational guidance to more children, increasing their chances of breaking the cycle of poverty and vulnerability that often leads to life on the streets.

We also believe that the new building will help to promote the safety and well-being of the children at the centre, particularly the girls who need to be separated from older boys. By providing a safe and secure environment for vulnerable children, we hope to contribute to their overall development and help them build a better future.

Overall, our aim in supporting the construction of a new building for the Ndako Ya Biso centre is to improve the lives of street children in Kinshasa and provide them with the support and resources they need to thrive. We are committed to promoting social inclusion, equal opportunities and sustainable development in the DRC, and supporting the work of the Ndako Ya Biso centre is an important part of this commitment.
